Preventive Maintenance For Your Garbage Disposal

I don't know about other Real Estate Agents, but the Home Inspection for many of my clients seems to almost always teach me a thing or two about Home Maintenance. For example, one inspector has told me that Ice Cubes and Lemons do wonders for sharpening the blades and helping to prevent unwanted odors from surfacing. I have tried it and it worked! Of course it needs to be done on a regular basis.
I've also heard about Caulking, the kind of Caulking to use. I've listened and learned about the Roof, the need in some areas for de-humidifiers and more.

The 4th of July Celebration In Fairfax Virginia

The largest and best free Home Town Parade in Northern Virginia is how the 4th of July Independence Day Parade is described. If you want to have fun, fun, and more fun, you need to seriously consider attending, and why not bring your family? The good news is, the Fairfax Carnival kicks things off on July 2nd and runs through the 4th. When coupled with the parade and then the Grand Finale Fireworks at the High School on the fourth, it will be a great weekend.

Vienna Virginia 4th of July Event

I have really enjoyed highlighting summer fun activities in this blog over the past few weeks. Trust me, I've written all kinds of Real Estate posts that I trust have been helpful in the past and will return to doing so again. It is simply for a few weeks I would like to stay on the subject of Things To Do This Summer.

The fourth of July is always a great time of year. I don't know about you but the old song runs through my head, "Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet!" While I am not promoting Chevrolet, I am feeling in the mood for everything else in that little tune! (No, I won't sing it for you)....

Vienna, Virginia is planning a great 4th of July Event! There will be the Vienna Community Band, Arts and Crafts, Food, Chili Cook-off, Rides, Antique and Classic Car Show and don't forget the Fireworks. Why not take the family and enjoy!

Culpeper Virginia 4th Of July Event

In an ongoing effort to keep you informed about community events for the summer, here is something you really will not want to miss. In fact, I saw the banner hanging over the road today as I was showing properties.

The town is Culpeper, Virginia and the event is, "Culpeper's 4th of July Celebration". Last year it is estimated that over 10,000 people attended. There will be a Freedom 5K Race, Car & Bike Show, Main Street Parade, Family Amusement, Dinner in the Park and finally, at the end of the day - FIREWORKS!!!

Fourth Of July At The Reston Town Center

Northern Virginia offers many possiblities on the 4th of July this year. I've already highlighted the Family Fun Day planned for The Plains Virginia. Additionally, there are activities planned in Fairfax, Vienna and other areas. I will endeavor to spotlight more fun filled places as this week progresses, so be watching for more information.

Today, I want to emphasize something a little bit different for the 4th, but absolutely worth your time. Notice, I just said, "Your time". This is a FREE Concert to Celebrate America's Independence with the 257th Army Band. It is "The Band of the Nation's Capital" and they will be performing at the Reston Town Center, 7 pm on July 4th.

Summer Picnics At Wolftrap In Northern Virginia

I've enjoyed keeping you posted with Things going on in Northern Virginia this summer. In other words, I've penned many blogs about Summer Fun Activities for the entire family.

I'm sure you've noted that I've been highlighting Wolftrap and the Summer Entertainment taking place there. Entertainment like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra, The Ultimate Doo-Wop Show (Performance Tonight) and many others. I will continue to keep you posted on the many concerts coming our way.

One thing I haven't mentioned, is if you purchase Lawn Tickets for the concert, you can also enjoy a Prepared Picnic from "Meals Beneath The Moon" or you can even bring Your Own picnic Basket, Drinks, etc...

A Doctor's Advice For Your Next Home Purchase? Well kinda......

I have a friend who is a doctor. We were sitting having lunch a while back and I was sharing about another friend of mine who has something going on physically. My doctor friend, after I paused for a moment, spoke up and said these words that I will never forget: "David, when it comes to physical concerns, NOT KNOWING IS NOT BETTER". I knew exactly what my friend the doctor was saying. "We can guess, we can speculate, but the fact is, until your friend has a true diagnosis, until he/she knows what they are up against, we are only guessing and nothing can truly be properly treated!"

Why this story? I mean, after all, I'm a Real Estate Agent who seldom becomes involved with individuals in reference to health concerns.

The reason for the story is this: I am constantly running into prospective home buyers within Real Estate who want to purchase a house but they haven't come to grips with one specific absolute that MUST be dealt with. They stop by and sign up at my website to search for a home. They talk with me sometimes and endeavor to persuade me to take them out looking for a house! But when the subject of their CREDIT and MORTGAGE APPROVAL comes up, I hear things like, "I believe everything is fine David, let's just go house shopping first and then I will pursue the Mortgage!" Then comes the disappointment when house hunters who procrastinated find out they can't qualify for a Mortgage and there are things to work on which of course means there is a delay they hadn't counted on! The disappointment mentioned a moment ago is huge. All the while, this has happened because they didn't want to deal with the facts! You see, in Real Estate, like when tacking health concerns, NOT KNOWING IS NOT BETTER!

When you as a home buyer know up front where you stand financially, you can then begin to fix what is wrong, if something indeed needs to be fixed. Additionally, you will be able to find a house in your price range and when that house is found - You will be able to write a sound offer in an effort to purchase it!

The fact is, most of us, unless we are paying cash, will need a Mortgage and Mortgage Approval! Why not deal with it up front so that the path is clear for your next home purchase.

4th of July Family Fun In The Plains Virginia

I just received notice that the Great Meadow Foundation, in The Plains Virginia, is sponsoring another 4th of July event. The fun promises to be "Family Friendly" and includes a Rock Wall, DC Radio Control Giant Scale Planes, Moon Bounce, Face Painting, Stick Pony Races, 4H Petting Farm, Clowns, A Polo Exhibition, High Powered Rocketing and an American Helicopter Display.

Of course, last but not least is the Fireworks (set to music) planned to begin at dusk! The cost is $30.00 per car in advance or $40.00 per car at the gate.

In fact, remember that tonight (June 22, 2011) the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is performing. Climb Aboard For Some Great Summer Fun

If you live in Northern Virginia, I'm sure you are fully aware of the many, many things to do for Summer Fun. We have parks, hiking trails, a short distance west is the Skyline Drive, Lurray Caverns, Concerts, Theater and so much more.

One of my favorite destinations from Northern Virginia is, Durbin, West Virginia. I just Googled it and it is 3 hours and 14 minutes from Gainesville, VA.

So what is in Durbin, WV? Well, I was raised by the old Grand Trunk Railroad Yards in Port Huron, Michigan. In other words, I heard the sounds of trains day and night and loved it. In fact, once I grew up, went into the Air Force and then College, I found myself yearning to be around trains and to hear that familiar sound again. I will drive many miles out of my way when on a trip, just to see historic trains and sometimes to take a ride!

When you travel to Durbin, you will not only be around historic trains to look at them, but you can go on Scenic Tours, shopping trips and so much more! Independence Day Celebration - Leesburg, VA

It's not to early to think about Independence Day in Northern Virginia. For years, I thought the only real place to go and celebrate was Washington DC. The fact is, our Capital probably does have one of the finest Independence Day Events in the Nation to attend.

If you prefer to not go into Washington and celebrate there, consider Leesburg, Virginia. At 10 am, there is the Parade that your family is sure to enjoy. At 6 pm, you can attend a concert at Ida Lee Park with the Faded Image Band from the Baltimore area. Of course, as always, you can count on food - wonderful food such as Ice Cream, Barbeque and other goodies. Follow the link to learn more:

100 Possibilities Of Things To Do In Washington DC

I remember when raising our children, we would often hear throughout the summer, "There isn't anything to do..." I'm sure if you are a parent or grandparent and you are reading this brief blog post, you can truly relate to those words.

Well, I have good news for everyone who lives in Northern Virginia. There is a website that you will want to become acquainted with. It is called, "100 Free (or Nearly Free) Things To Do in DC". Mormon Tabernacle Choir To Appear At Wolftrap

I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing various events with my readers within the Northern Virginia area over the past few weeks. One thing I've endeavored to do is to keep everyone up to date on entertainment taking place at Wolftrap this year.

I'm pleased to share that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra will be at the Feline Center on June 22nd, at 8 pm. The Choir has 360 members and the evening promises a great time for the entire family. Here are just a few of the songs that will be sung at the concert.

We Had An Enjoyable Lunch Today At . . .

About once a month, I enjoy talking about "New arrivals" in Gainesville, Virginia. NO, I'm not talking about babies! Instead, I'm referring to businesses. In fact, today we tried one of the "New arrivals" out and found it to be an enjoyable treat.

The Potbelly Sandwich Shop had it's Grand Opening on April 30th and has been doing a great business. In fact, today it was full! The food was good with a great selection of Sandwiches, soft drinks, water, etc..... Enjoy a Day or Two At Shenandoah National Park

I've been writing over the past few weeks about Summer Fun activities that the entire family can enjoy. This particular activity will need a full day, but the reward for your family will be wonderful.

Living in Northern Virginia not only provides many opportunities for enjoyment within the Greater Washington DC area, but many other possibilities for fun are just a short distance away. The activity I'm thinking of today is visiting the Shenandoah Nation Park. The drives, hiking trails, wild life and sunsets are spectacular. I would urge all of my readers to consider doing what my wife and I have done in the past. Go and spend a day or two and have the time of your life! Make sure you spend some time on the beautiful Skyline Drive.

Elvis Costello & The Imposters At Wolftrap

Throughout the summer I will be highlighting some of the events taking place at Wolftrap. The neat thing about Wolftrap is much of the entertainment is for the entire family.

On June 15th at 8 pm, Elvis Costello & The Imposters will be performing. Tickets are $48 for in house and $30 on the lawn. Personally, I enjoy concerts while sitting on the lawn more than anywhere else. I've had premium house seats in the past, but I still like the lawn.

Enjoy Studying The Song Bird In Prince William County

I just learned that Prince William County will be offering a Birding Program at their Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park. The date is, June 12, and the time is set for 8 am. This is a great opportunity to learn about the Song Bird, their identifying calls and habits. The attender will also learn about other birds on this wonderful nature tour. In fact, the park is host to a very diverse population of birds. The tour is about two hours in length and I believe there might be a $5.00 charge.
